Reasons for the rise in prices in India

In recent times, the prices are said to be driven by factors such as reduced production levels, seasonal demands, and high transportation costs. Many consumers, whether from lower or middle-income groups, feel the “pinch in the pockets” as eggs are the only alternative source of protein in their diets. This phenomenon does hurt the household food expenditure. Local eateries continue to alter their prices due to high price trends. This affects their profit margins as they do not wish to let go of their regular customers.

Global prices

In the global setting, prices have seen a significant price hike.  Many nations across the globe, do feel the pinch of the prices. One of the prime reasons is the “Avian flu” or popularly known as the H1N1, which continues to spread across the United States of America and the European regions. At the moment, the situation is in control, with the cases and the spread of cases being minimised to a great extent.

In the European markets, the potential for an increase in the consumption of eggs is likely to increase by 4.65% until 2035. This is as per the CAGR reports released earlier this month. In terms of consumption, Germany, Italy, and France hold the top three positions in the region, and in terms of exports, the Netherlands takes the top spot.

As per the global product prices estimates of December 2025, many nations shell out a lot more for the consumption of eggs. As per the December estimates, Australia shells out close to 8 USD for a dozen eggs and ranks number one. India, on the other hand, ranks at 77th, where they shell out close to 2 dollars for a dozen.

With food prices rising at a rapid pace, one may need to monitor their trends to keep inflation in check. In the last year alone, as per the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US, recorded an increase of 13.25% on the prices of eggs. This is as per the report released last November. With the tariffs in place, many of the food products coming in did see a surge in prices. Over time, this would only hurt consumer sentiment, leading to deep shelling out just for food expenditure alone. An uncertainty in the future of tariffs in the US consumer still looms over the general public, and still, people are left in the unknown.

In short, all the nations might need to keep a close watch on the food prices, as global disturbances, tariff uncertainties still continue to haunt the policy makers worldwide.
